Our Panelists

Lisa M. Lee is Associate Vice President for Scholarly Integrity and Research Compliance and faculty in Population Health Sciences at Virginia Tech. She served for 20 years in a variety of roles in federal service, including Executive Director of President Obama’s Bioethics Commission, Chief of Bioethics at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and several agency-level leadership roles at CDC. She was inaugural chair of the Ethics Section of the American Public Health Association, and elected 2021-2023 board chair of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.  Her current work focuses on ethics pedagogy, public health ethics, and deliberation as an ethics decision-making method.

Jennifer Morton is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a senior fellow at the Center for Ethics and Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In Fall of 2021, she will be taking up a position as Presidential Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Her areas of research are philosophy of action, moral philosophy, philosophy of education, and political philosophy.

Jim Thomas is Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Public Health. He is also Director of the MEASURE Program at the Carolina Population Center. His research interests are in social forces underlying epidemics, ethical concerns in digital surveillance and the ethical practice of public health in a pandemic.
